where to use katakana

Although the order that we start to study most of the time is hiragana the katakana was created first and nowadays it is very used for words of foreign origins mainly derived from English.

Katakana is nothing more than simplified kanji, but it is mostly used for foreign words naming for example names of people, countries, etc.

It is also used for onomatopoeias which are nothing more than words to describe noises, screams, etc. We can give an example the song of a bird or the bark of a dog.
